The firm currently is seeking qualified individuals for the following positions:

Seeking an associate attorney to work at the Law Offices of Charles L. Kurmay in Milford, CT who is seeking a long-term position in a sophisticated litigation practice in which to grow and eventually become partner. The Office handles a variety of complex litigation cases that include criminal, civil, and probate law in both state and federal courts, in Connecticut and elsewhere. The associate will work under the direction of Chuck Kurmay, the Firm’s founder, retired Probate Judge and Probate Court Administrator, F. Paul Kurmay, as well as our senior associate, Jamie L. Ottaviano.

Job Description

The ideal candidate will have the ability to work collaboratively as a member of a team. They will consistently produce high quality work product with substantial attention to detail in order to achieve long term client goals. They should be able to work independently and manage their time productively, although support and mentoring is always available, and questions are encouraged. The associate filling this position will have a proven track record of exercising sound judgment.

Necessary Requirements

The ideal candidate must have at least two years litigation experience trying cases to apply and strong brief writing skills. Admission to the Connecticut State and Federal Bars is required.

Necessary Skills

  • Excellent written and interpersonal skills
  • The ability to rapidly comprehend complex matters and develop strategy accordingly
  • Significant organizational and time management skills
  • The ability to organize and analyze voluminous records and to be able to use them in court proceedings
  • Knowledge and experience in Probate administration
  • Proficiency with technology and ability to maintain, update and modify documents needed during proceedings

 

Responsibilities

  • Develop individual matters assigned to them from beginning to end in order to achieve a successful result for the client(s)
  • Actively participate in client meetings and strategy sessions
  • Prepare for and conduct depositions, motion hearings and trials
  • Draft motions and briefs

 

Work Hours

The working hours generally fall in the range of forty to fifty hours per week. However, associates may need to work longer hours as the needs of a case are assessed to meet deadlines, particularly in the event of trial.

Seeking one or more Law Clerks to work at the expanding Law Offices of Charles L. Kurmay in Milford and Madison, CT who is either currently attending an accredited law school or has recently graduated from one. The Office handles a variety of complex litigation cases that include criminal, civil and probate law in both state and federal courts, in Connecticut and elsewhere. The law clerk will work under the direction of Chuck Kurmay, the Firm’s founder, retired Probate Judge and Probate Court Administrator, F. Paul Kurmay, as well as our senior associate, Jamie L. Ottaviano.

  • Assist attorneys in developing individual matters that are assigned to them from beginning to end in order to achieve a successful result for the client(s)
  • Observe/participate in client meetings and strategy sessions
  • Assist attorneys in preparing for depositions, motion hearings and trials
  • Conduct legal research
  • Draft motions and briefs

 

Work Hours

The working hours generally fall in the range of twenty to twenty-five hours per week. However, law clerks may need to work longer hours as the needs of a case are assessed to meet deadlines, particularly in the event of trial.
